PHOENIX — Leukemia is the most common cancer in children, with thousands of new cases every year. The National Cancer Institute estimated there will be nearly 67,000 new cases of leukemia diagnosed in the U.S. in 2025. Those diagnoses are across all age groups.
Erica Magana is a West Valley mom who had to endure one of those nightmares. Her daughter, Alaina, was about 2.5 years old when she was diagnosed with leukemia.
"It's an aggressive type of leukemia that she had," Magana said.
Alaina was in treatment for about seven months, a tough time for the Magana family.
“It's like you can't even process what you're being told," Magana said. "All you know is that your child's in danger. You could lose her.”
