Two time-ECHL MVP Brandon Hawkins was named captain of the Toledo Walleye on Thursday.

Hawkins, who has garnered the nickname “The Mayor” for becoming the face of the organization in his first four seasons with the ECHL franchise, will be the team’s captain for the first time.

Hawkins has served as an alternate captain the previous four seasons. Sam Craggs and Colin Swoyer have been named alternate captains this season.

Walleye coach Pat Mikesch said the star forward has earned the honor.

“Hawk has been such a crucial person for this entire organization,” Mikesch said. “I think he sets a great example of what our culture is, and then that carries over to everybody else.”
