Jackie Norris, chair of the Des Moines School Board, has ended her U.S. Senate campaign.

She announced the move Thursday morning , thanking supporters on social media and saying, "I will continue to serve our community and do everything I can to better the lives of children and their families."

Norris, who previously served as the White House Chief of Staff to First Lady Michelle Obama, launched a campaign in August for the Senate seat currently held by Joni Ernst and billed herself as "a military mom, small business owner, non-profit leader, somebody who's worked in government, an educator."
