BBC boss Tim Davie says he backs the prosecution of people who evade the TV licence fee, saying he supports the "current system" in place.

The director-general of the BBC has spoken out following growing calls to decriminalise licence fee non-payment for over-75s, with a private member's bill on the issue currently being debated.

Mr Davie outlined his stance on the licence as he appeared on BBC Breakfast to answer questions from his own staff.

Speaking on BBC Breakfast, Mr Davie said: "If people are evading the licence fee, it should be enforced. I support the current system, yes."
