The Met Office has issued a verdict on the chances of the UK getting snowfall, amid recent reports of an upcoming "barrage of snow".

According to the Met Office, the current forecast does not support the idea of a widespread snow event . Instead, the outlook is for rain and wind, with temperatures above the seasonal norm.

The Met Office said that "isolated wintry showers" are "always possible" in late October, particularly over high ground in Scotland, there is no evidence in the forecast for a “huge barrage” of snow affecting the UK as a whole, as some recent reports have suggested.

As well as the possibility of snow, there have been recent media reports of an upcoming "cold snap", to which the Met Office has refuted.
