CHICAGO — A federal judge said she’s “profoundly concerned” federal immigration agents in the Chicago area aren’t following a newly issued temporary restraining order that prohibits agents from using excessive force against journalists and peaceful protesters.

At a hearing Thursday, U.S. District Judge Sara Ellis pointed to two high-profile incidents this week as troubling: On Sunday in Albany Park, federal immigration agents tear-gassed a group of residents and rapid responders who were expressing frustration and anger at agents after they detained a neighbor. Then on Tuesday in East Side, agents intentionally crashed into a driver after a chase before tear-gassing outraged onlookers and protesters.
