AMES, Iowa —

Iowa State was picked to finish fifth in the Big 12 when the league's preseason men's basketball poll was released Thursday.

The Cyclones, who finished fifth last season with a 13-7 record in Big 12 play, are behind defending Big 12 champion Houston, BYU, Texas Tech and Arizona in the poll. Iowa State is one spot ahead of traditional powerhouse Kansas.

Senior point guard Tamin Lipsey cracked the All-Big 12 preseason team. Lipsey was a first-team All-Big 12 selection as a sophomore in 2024 and earned honorable mention All-American honors. He is already the school's career steals leader and is a two-time Big 12 All-Defensive team member.
