The Senate failed to pass a Republican bill to end the government shutdown 2025 today, Thursday, Oct. 16, with hopes of the government reopening seemingly dwindling on Day 16. We are now tied with the third-longest shutdown in history, tied with the 2013 shutdown under former President Barack Obama.

It was the 10th attempt by the Seante to advance a House-passed measure, with a failing vote of 51-45, with four senators not voting. No new Democrats joined Republicans in the vote, despite GOP efforts to pull Democrats across the aisle.
