Tributes have been paid to a "wonderful" 82-year-old woman who "still had a lot of life to give" before her life was tragically cut short by an uninsured and unlicensed driver. Jean Hindmarch passed away in hospital four days after being struck by a car in Wrekenton, Gateshead, on 18 December 2023.

Gordon Grieveson was apprehended at the scene and charged in July this year with causing death by careless driving, as well as two counts of causing death while uninsured and unlicensed. On Wednesday, the 57 year old, from Avon Street in Deckham, was handed a ten-month prison sentence and banned from driving for two years and four months.
