Northern Railway has suspended the sale of platform tickets from October 15 to 28 in anticipation of heavy passenger traffic during the upcoming Diwali and Chhath festivals, the temporary move will be implemented at five key stations including New Delhi, Old Delhi, Hazrat Nizamuddin, Anand Vihar, and Ghaziabad.
This would reduce congestion on platforms and ensuring smoother operations during the festive period rush, which typically sees a sharp increase in rail travel.
Himanshu Shekhar Upadhyay, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of Northern Railway, explained the rationale behind the decision. "The decision has been taken to prevent overcrowding at stations, keeping in mind the increase in passengers,” he said.
