California - The Trump administration is withholding over 40 million dollars in federal funding from California. This decision follows the transportation department's claim that the state failed to enforce an English language proficiency requirement for truck drivers.
In August, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy put California, Washington State and New Mexico on notice. He stated that these states had 30 days to implement an English language proficiency requirement list or risk losing federal funding.
This action is linked to an incident in Washington State, where a semitruck driver, who did not speak English, was involved in a Florida crash that resulted in three fatalities. The state was accused of illegally giving a license to this driver, said Duffy.
