The Home Affairs Department is set to finally shake off its reputation as the worst agency to work for in the Australian public service.

After being ranked last in job satisfaction for two years in a row, the 2025 APS Census to be published next month will show Home Affairs has made a big improvement in the eyes of its staff.

Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke revealed the department had jumped ahead in response to questions from The Canberra Times at the National Press Club on Thursday.

"The latest survey I saw ... the census data had Home Affairs actually moving from right down the bottom to towards the middle," Mr Burke said, referring to the yet-to-be-released results.
