JEFFERSON COUNTY, Fla. (WCTV) - One man has been arrested after an alleged elder fraud scheme, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
JCSO arrested Dhrumil Bhatt on October 8 in connection with what they say is a sophisticated elder-fraud scheme.
JCSO said earlier this month, investigators went to speak to 81-year-old Carolyn Hawkins, who had received a phone call in July from someone pretending to be with Ameris Bank. She said the caller told her there was fraud on her account and transferred her to “Special Agent Andrew Ferguson” with the Federal Trade Commission.
Andrew told Hawkins that the FTC attorney looked her up and saw she was “worth millions,” sent her a photo of the FTC credentials and told her she needed to put up at least half of her money to help fight the id
