NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) -A North Charleston city councilman facing corruption charges announced he will resign his council seat on Thursday.

Mike A. Brown wrote on Facebook that it was “a tough decision, but I’m in the middle of a battle that I can’t win.”

Brown was one of three North Charleston City Council members who were charged in a February corruption probe that also included charges for five others, whom the U.S. Attorney’s Office and FBI described as their associates.

Brown is charged with conspiracy to commit bribery with respect to programs receiving federal funds and honest services wire fraud; bribery with respect to programs receiving federal funds; and honest services wire fraud.
