LANSING — About 120 Soldiers from the Michigan Army National Guard’s 1430th Engineer Company, based in Traverse City, will deploy to the Southwest Border to support the federal law enforcement mission.

A departure ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. Oct. 17 at Western Michigan University’s Lawson Ice Arena in Kalamazoo. Brig. Gen. Ravindra Wagh, assistant adjutant general and commander of the Michigan Army National Guard, is expected to attend alongside families and invited guests.

The 1430th Engineer Company will support U.S. Customs and Border Protection under the direction of U.S. Northern Command and Joint Task Force North. Their mission is to assist with border security operations, enabling agents to carry out law enforcement duties. The deployment is expected to last up to a year.
