BURLINGTON, N.C. — Two people are facing charges after a fight broke out on the field following Friday night’s football game at Cummings High School in Burlington that left a police officer injured.
According to the Burlington Police Department, the fight started at the conclusion of the Cummings vs. Person High School game on October 10. Officers said pepper spray was used in an attempt to break up the altercation involving players.
During the incident, a Burlington police officer — serving as a school resource officer — was hit by a football helmet thrown by a 16-year-old juvenile, causing minor injuries. The teen has been petitioned for Assault on a Government Official.
