HAMILTON, Ohio (WXIX) - John Carter is seeking an early release from jail.
The motion was filed in Butler County on Oct. 15.
Carter was sentenced to 36 months in jail in July 2024 for the 2011 death of Katelyn Markham.
He accepted a plea deal just before his trial was to start.
The plea deal reduced his charges from two counts of murder to a single misdemeanor count of involuntary manslaughter.
Up until that point, Carter had maintained his innocence in Markham’s disappearance since the beginning as well as her death once her remains were found nearly two years later.
Carter, according to Butler County Prosecutor Mike Gmoser, only pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter to avoid a potential harsher punishment if the case went to trial.
