FARGO – The Forum’s Ryan Spitza had a story this week on the Fargo South boys soccer team that was worthy of a double-take and a low whistle signifying amazement, even for somebody whose daughter went to the ultra-diverse Moorhead High School. The headline: “With players from 12 nations, diverse Bruins have eyes on state soccer title.”

A dozen different countries — plus a member of the Native American Hidatsa Tribe — representing a high school squad in Fargo, North Dakota.

This has to be some kind of record, no?

At a time when immigrants and refugees are being targeted around the nation and here in Fargo by a political party tapping into the deep insecurities, resentment and racism of a large portion of the electorate, this is a noteworthy reality.
