More than 100 people filed into the Oct. 16 DeSoto County Schools board meeting in Hernando, with many demanding the resignation or removal of board member Michele Henley .
The meeting, which Henley did not attend, became heated quickly as audience members began to voice their concerns freely. The board immediately voted to move to a closed executive session, leaving just Superintendent Cory Uselton and board member Charles Barton remaining in the room. Multiple calls of "run away" and "cowards" were heard as they exited.
Calls for Henley's resignation began after the Oct. 13 sentencing of Lindsey Whiteside, a former youth pastor who pleaded guilty to sexual battery of a minor. Judge Andrew Howorth sentenced Whiteside to three years under house arrest and seven years of probation.
