DURANGO, Colo. (KRQE) – Five days since historic flooding forced evacuations through parts of southwest Colorado, hundreds of people are now returning to their homes and assessing the damage. Nearly 400 homes were evacuated over the weekend, and while the water has gone down, they're now facing broken roads, downed trees, and more in their neighborhoods. "Now the real work begins, right?" said Sarah Jacobson, Spokesperson for La Plata County.

Photos sent by New Mexico State Senator Nicole Tobiassen (R-Albuquerque) show one of hundreds of properties near Grimes Creek, north of Durango, where people are finally being allowed back after evacuations Saturday.

"The decision was made that it is safe enough for everybody to be home, and we're urging everybody to just be cautious," said Jacobson
