Daniel Sprong is off to a hot start in the KHL, leading traditional power CSKA Moscow in scoring with 14 points in 14 games (five goals, nine assists).
But that didn’t prevent the club from suspending the former Detroit Red Wings forward for at least two games for unspecified reasons.
According to Sport-Express, head coach Igor Nikitin is “dissatisfied with the player’s behavior. Specifically, he’s complaining that the 28-year-old forward isn’t meeting his demands and isn’t fitting in with the team’s play.”
Sprong had a fairly productive season in Detroit in 2023-24, collecting 18 goals and 43 points despite limited ice time in a bottom-six role.
The Red Wings did not re-sign him. He inked a one-year, $970,000 contract with Vancouver but experienced a tumultuous season.
