LINCOLN, Neb. —

A pounding heart, sweaty palms, and surging adrenaline are all symptoms of the Big Red Fever.

In 1981, a KETV reporter interviewed Jim Loftus, who had the disease.

He was a mild-mannered U.S. Army Corps Engineer, who was not shy about admitting to having the Big Red Fever. He said he had had it for more than 20 years B.D. - before Bob Devaney.

Loftus said he caught it during his school days at NU.

His trademark was giant posters at every game, which caught the attention of major Iowa papers.
