Al Pacino is mourning Diane Keaton with the kind of love letter only a co‑star and onetime partner could deliver, calling her his partner, friend, and the love of his life.

Keaton, 79, died Saturday, Oct. 11, of primary bacterial pneumonia, and she has been cremated, according to a death certificate obtained by CNN.

In an interview published by Deadline on Thursday, Oct. 16, Pacino reflected that news of her passing brought memories “with a force that is both painful and moving,” praising her “unmistakable energy” and the way she “opened doors for others” and inspired generations.
