Five people have been taken to hospital after being exposed to an unidentified chemical at two North Queensland post offices.
Paramedics responded to reports of leaking packages at Australia Post outlets in Townsville and Charters Towers just before 7:00am.
In Townsville, the building on Morris Street in the suburb of West End, was evacuated.
One patient was taken to hospital for monitoring.
They were in a stable condition.
Four other patients, also stable, were transported from a post office on Gill Street in Charters Towers to the local health service.
The Queensland Fire Department is conducting urgent testing to determine the type of chemical involved.
Police are waiting for the test results before launching an investigation.
