CANFIELD, Ohio (WOIO) - An Ohio State Trooper was killed, and a truck driver was flown by helicopter to the hospital after another truck rear-ended the trooper as he was helping a disabled semi-truck in Canfield on Thursday.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol said 40-year-old Trooper Nicholas P. Cayton was fatally struck on state Route 11 in Mahoning County around 11:52 a.m.

Governor DeWine shared his thoughts on the death of Trooper Cayton.

The Governor ordered that United States and Ohio flags be flown at half-staff upon all public buildings and grounds throughout Mahoning County, the Ohio Statehouse, the Vern Riffe Center, and the Rhodes State Office Tower, and will remain until sunset on the day of his funeral.
