ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (WPTA) - The West Central Fire District unanimously voted to purchase the Arcola fire station in Lake Township during its board meeting on Thursday.
The purchase totals $475,000, which the district says will be paid to the Arcola Volunteer Firefighters Association in two payments - one this year, and another in 2026.
Currently, the district operates under lease agreements out of two fire stations, with the other located in Aboite Township.
By purchasing the Arcola fire station in Lake Township, the district says it will gain full ownership of the location, allowing it to improve the facility without first coordinating with other districts.
By improving the facility, the district says it will be able to respond better to emergencies.
