ROSELAND, La. (Louisiana First) — The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) provided updates on work the agency has done cleaning up ponds near the Tangipahoa River shortly after announcing Smitty's Supply will take over cleanup efforts nearly two months after the company's Roseland plant exploded.

Some community members want to see more information released regarding chemical testing.

EPA officials took Louisiana First Investigates to an area near the causeway between Pond D1 and Pond D2 in the area. EPA Region 6 Administrator Scott Mason said the overall response has been one of the largest in agency history.

"We've removed over 11 million gallons from the rivers and ponds of oily waste material," Mason said. "If you think about that, that's at least 16.5 Olympic-sized swimming pools.
