There was a big moment in the third period that had nothing to do with the grinding hockey that was on display between the Maple Leafs and New York Rangers.
Out of nowhere Leaf fans – on their phones, presumably – cheered. Andrés Giménez hit a two-run home run in the third inning to give the Blue Jays a lead over Seattle. A “Let’s Go Blue Jays” chant erupted at Scotiabank Arena.
“I don’t think they put anything on the scoreboard, but you could tell that something that was happening in the (baseball) game because the randomly the crowd just started cheering,” said Auston Matthews. “It was great.”
