A Canberra woman accused of spying for the Chinese government has been granted bail, despite a risk she will try to leave the country.

The Chinese national and permanent Australian resident, whose name is suppressed, has pleaded not guilty to a single count of reckless foreign interference.

The Canberra business owner in her 30s, who allegedly spied on a Buddhist association for the Chinese government, was charged in early August and denied bail on September 1 .

In her second bail application at the ACT Magistrates Court on Friday, magistrate Jane Campbell said that despite the accused having financial means and connections, she wasn't satisfied the woman was likely to flee the community.
