PG&E is proposing a new rate increase that could affect customer bills over the next four years, in addition to a previous request made in March to raise rates by more than $5 a month starting next year.

The latest rate increase proposal would result in the average electricity costs rising by $144 a year in 2027 for customers using 500 kWh per month.

By 2030, electricity rates could be approximately $408 a year more than current rates. PG&E estimates that this increase will generate an additional $4.4 billion for the utility over the same period.

PG&E customers concerned about the proposed rate increase will have the opportunity to voice their opinions at public participation hearings next week.
