Another potential charter school submitted their application to Fairbanks North Star Borough School District with intent to open for the 2026/27 school year.
Two Rivers HomeSTEAD — science, technology, environment, agriculture and design — was born out of the old pre-k-8 school which the district closed in May.
President of the HomeSTEAD academic policy committee, or APC, Jasmine Wicks said parents promised their kids they’d do what they could to save the school.
“My daughter, this is not her first school closure, she also went to Joy. It’s really hard for students,” Wicks said.
The curriculum will be based on what Two Rivers School was already practicing before closing, a holistic learning approach based around tangible skills like animal skinning, hydroponic farming and jam making.
