Citizen groups and environmental activists in Mumbai have raised strong objections to the draft zonal master plan (ZMP) for the Eco-Sensitive Zone (ESZ) of the Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP), released by the BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). The 400-page draft, made public in mid-September, gives citizens 30 days from the date of publication to submit objections or suggestions. The deadline for public feedback is 17 October 2025. Spread across 87sqkm (square kilometres) in north Mumbai, SGNP is home to diverse wildlife and several adivasi communities. It is surrounded by an ESZ that acts as a protective buffer.
