A one-minute delay cost Bihar minister and Janata Dal (United) candidate Jayant Raj his chance to file nomination papers for the Amarpur Assembly seat on Friday.

Raj, who arrived at the filing centre shortly after the 3 pm deadline, was not allowed to submit his nomination papers as the official time had lapsed.

“The Election Commission’s rules and orders are supreme. No one is above the law,” the minister said, accepting the decision calmly. He added that he would file his nomination again on Saturday.

The Amarpur seat falls under Banka district, which will vote in the second phase of the Bihar Assembly elections on November 11. Candidates for these 122 constituencies have time till October 20 to file their nominations.

The JD(U) has already finalised its candidates for all 101 seats
