Long before Kyle Shanahan had coached in the NFL, he was a walk-on wide receiver for the University of Texas.
Perhaps that’s the reason why he’s so critical of his wide receivers.
So when Kendrick Bourne returned to the 49ers this season he took it as a great sign of respect that Shanahan would be inclined to re-sign the 30-year-old wideout after previously spending four seasons with the New England Patriots.
“It’s awesome and when I think about Kyle, as receivers, we’re his babies,” Bourne told NBC Sports Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco on "49ers Talk." “We’re kind of the engine to the whole system of what it is and how we’re throwing the ball now, it’s awesome. And we’re trying to get the run game going, things like that, but Kyle, it says a lot about the relationship we built together.
