SARASOTA, Fla. — Flights come in and out of Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport every day. But one flight that landed late Tuesday into Wednesday was extra special for everyone on board.

87 local veterans took an honor flight to Washington, D.C. for the first time, flying out of Sarasota-Bradenton. • Southwest Florida Honor Flight Veteran Application

Veterans from World War II, the Korean War, Vietnam War, Cold War, and other service eras flew to D.C. earlier in the morning to visit memorials like the U.S. Air Force Memorial and Arlington National Cemetery.

The flights were free for all the veterans thanks to Southwest Florida Honor Flight.

The organization told us that the flight also had the most female veterans ever flown on a Southwest Florida Honor Flight .
