BROOKLYN, N.Y. (PIX11) -- A head and torso were found in a garbage bin in Brooklyn on Friday morning, police said.

The severed body parts were discovered in a bin in front of an apartment building at 557 East 21st St. at around 9:15 a.m., according to the NYPD.

The person was pronounced dead at the scene. The medical examiner will determine the cause of death.

No other information was immediately available. The investigation is ongoing.

Human skeletal remains were also found in a garbage bag near a Brooklyn cemetery over the summer. A Department of Transportation worker was mowing the cemetery lawn when he found the remains off the Jackie Robinson Parkway at around 10:30 a.m. on Aug. 3, according to the NYPD and sources.
