OTTAWA — Prime Minister Mark Carney is set to embark on a nine-day trip to Asia, visiting Malaysia, Singapore, and South Korea from October 24 to November 1. His itinerary includes participation in two significant multinational summits.
Carney will first attend the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit in Kuala Lumpur. During this summit, he is expected to meet with Malaysia's prime minister to discuss trade relations.
Following the ASEAN Summit, Carney will travel to Singapore. There, he plans to engage with Singapore's prime minister and regional business leaders. The discussions will focus on strategies to eliminate trade barriers and attract global investment.
The prime minister will conclude his trip in South Korea, where he will attend a meeting of Asia-Pacific economic leaders in Gyeongju. Carney has indicated that he intends to visit the Hanwha Ocean shipyard during his time in South Korea. This facility is one of the two finalists competing for a contract to construct new submarines for Canada.
Carney's trip aims to strengthen trade and defense partnerships in the region, reflecting Canada's commitment to enhancing its economic ties with Asia.
