LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Louisville Metro Council voted to move ahead with a plan to create a new law enforcement branch to patrol the city’s parks.
Metro Council approved an ordinance changing the city’s park rangers into the Louisville Parks Police.
Soon, rangers will be trained and given benefits that were not available to them in the ranger program. The ranger program started in 2024, and filling positions was hard because of the benefits and training.
Supporters believe the parks police will make parks safer and help to address the police shortage. It will also help reduce calls to Metro Police abut park-related issues.
