LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) -- The Village of Pewamo has been under a drinking water advisory since Thursday after coliform bacteria was detected in the water supply. The village says you may wish to boil your water before using it.

Village officials say the water system detected the presence of coliform bacteria in the water supply. Of 25 samples taken for coliform during October, 60% showed presence of the bacteria.

According to the village, coliform bacteria are generally not harmful themselves, but their presence means that other, potentially harmful bacteria could be present. Coliform detection could indicate an issue with the village's water treatment or distribution systems.
