KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The family of a tree trimmer, who died after being electrocuted last week in Kansas City, has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Evergy.

According to the lawsuit filed in Jackson County on Thursday, Oct. 16, Kessler Brockman was working as a tree trimmer for Asplundh near E. 24th Street and Brighton Avenue on Oct. 8.

Brockman and his crew were doing line-clearance work, removing limbs that were too close to electrical lines owned, operated and maintained by Evergy.

The lawsuit says that before beginning the work, the general foreman and/or supervisor at Asplundh, contacted Evergy to request that the affected lines be de-energized. An Evergy technician responded and reported the subject lines had been de-energized and that it was safe for the crew to continue.
