A Rocky Hill resident resting on their front porch suffered a minor abrasion after an encounter with black bear on Friday afternoon.

The Rocky Hill Police Department Dispatch received a report of a black bear having contact with a resident in the 800 block of New Britain Avenue around 3:50 p.m. on Friday, according to police.

As officers arrived at the scene, they learned that the black bear had left the area and retreated into the woods heading toward Newington, police said.

The person told officers that they were resting on their front porch when a black bear approached and made contact with them. Officers observed a minor, superficial abrasion on the person’s left knee, according to police.
