There is a change at the top of the American Conference power ratings

For all intents and purposes, it is a four-team race for two spots in the American Conference championship game. Temple nearly muddied the picture before losing a heartbreaker in the final minute at home to Navy, and East Carolina would have injected itself into the conversation if it had held on to a four-point fourth-quarter lead at Tulane.

The reality, though, is the four best teams in the American — South Florida, Memphis, Tulane and Navy — own the only undefeated league marks. They will go one more weekend without facing each other before the real fun starts Oct. 25 when South Florida travels to Memphis.
