ST. GEORGE, Utah (ABC4) — Every October, St. George transforms into a global stage for senior athletes, proving that competition doesn't have an age limit.
The Huntsman World Senior Games draw more than 11,000 athletes from across the United States and around the world, competing in over 40 different sports, ranging from softball and swimming to pickleball and track and field.
The event began in 1987, founded by local hoteliers John and Daisy Morgan, and was then known as the World Senior Games.
"They were looking for a way to get people to come and stay in their hotel," says Huntsman World Senior Games CEO Kyle Case. "And this was one of the ideas that stuck to the wall. We hosted our first event in 1987, then over the years it's grown to become this entirely different thing."
