COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - Allan Roberts sits under a blue umbrella in a cemetery every day, staying as close as he can to his wife Mary, who died seven months ago.
“I had to do something to be with her,” Allan said. “She’s right here where I’m at now, and this is as close as I’ll ever get to her. So, I want to stay as close as I can.”
Allan visits Mary’s grave daily since she passed away in February from complications of pneumonia and RSV. Still wearing the ring Mary gave him, he watches over what will also be his final resting place.
“She was what most men look for in a woman, I guess. Beauty. That’s the only thing I ever saw, how pretty she was,” Roberts said.
A love story decades in the making
The couple met in the early 1950s after Roberts was dared to kiss a girl at a baseball game.
