FISHERS – Forward Blake Murray scored the opening goal of the season on a power play just four minutes and 29 seconds into the Komets’ 4-0 win over the Indy Fuel on Friday in front of 6,530 fans at Fishers Event Center.
The performance was highlighted by goaltender Nathan Day’s 27-save shutout, marking his third shutout in four ECHL regular-season appearances. Day was transferred to Fort Wayne from the Bakersfield Condors earlier in the week.
“He’s calm, collected and gives us a chance to win,” Komets coach Jesse Kallechy said. “He made every save he needed to tonight and then he made some big ones. We’re a better team with him, there’s no doubt about it.”
Besides the goal by Murray, the Komets’ offense struggled to get even-strength opportunities and were held to just one 5-on-5 shot i
