CLAREMONT — A first-time starting quarterback and a hungry, dominating defense are a bad combination for the offense.

That was the case Friday as Bonita forced five turnovers and pulled away in the second half for a 31-7 victory over Claremont in a Sierra League contest.

Bonita (5-3 overall, 3-0 league) won its fifth straight game while Claremont (6-2, 1-2) lost its second straight.

“The first half, we found a way to hurt ourselves on every drive,” Bonita co-coach Bo Beatty said. “But our kids bought in. They always buy in. I’m excited about this group. They play physical.”

Claremont was playing for the third straight game without starting quarterback Brandon Coronado, injured his left (non-throwing) shoulder in a car accident during the Wolfpack’s bye week.
