Thieves who rammed a police car while fleeing after trying to steal a vehicle in Coventry were stopped by two dogs.

Scout and Ugo helped officers arrest two suspects after a chase around the city.

It happened on the night of Thursday, October 16 when a resident alerted police after stepping in to stop their car being stolen. Having given a description of the suspects' getaway car, officers managed to spot them and gave chase.

After the arrests, officers discovered one of the suspects had been on the run for two years.

A spokesman for Coventry Police said: "An attempt was made to steal a car from someone's drive - however the offenders were disturbed and the police called, and the caller was able to give a description of the offender's vehicle.
