2025 has been the deadliest year for West Virginia in flooding-caused fatalities since 2016, with overflowing rivers and streams devastating its southern coalfield counties in February, and Marion and Ohio counties in June.
The floods left 12 people dead, caused millions of dollars in damages and rendered community bridges and roads impassable. The disasters prompted Gov. Patrick Morrisey to mobilize West Virginia Army and Air National Guard members to assist local emergency management agencies, first responders and public works personnel in providing food and cleaning supplies and clearing debris.
