State Senator Scott Wiener will run for U.S. Congress in 2026 regardless of whether Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi decides to seek reelection, according to a story in The San Francisco Standard , which cited unnamed sources who said Wiener told them as much.
A Wiener spokesperson declined to comment on the report that next week he will throw his hat in the race to represent California’s 11th congressional district, which covers most of San Francisco.
Wiener, who represents San Francisco and northern San Mateo County, had said in June that he intended to run “whenever the race opens up,” be that for next year’s election or 2028.
