Perth Wildcats coach John Rillie isn’t shocked that Mason Jones has taken time to find his feet in the NBL, saying fans must remember that many imports require patience before hitting their straps.
Jones had Wildcats fans thinking they’d hit the jackpot when he scored seven three pointers in his first pre-season appearance for the club. But the American is averaging 9.5 points and 2.8 assists across the first four games of the regular season, while making only five of his 22 three-point attempts.
Rillie said history told him it wasn’t easy for many imports to instantly succeed.
“It doesn’t worry me. In my four years here, every year there has been a guy who has gone through that at some level,” Rillie said.
